Parents Of 10-Year-Old Reveal Name Bullies Called Their Son Before He Tragically Took His Life

The tragic story of a 10-year-old boy’s death has sparked a nationwide conversation about bullying, school accountability, and the emotional toll on children. On May 5, 2024, 10-year-old Sammy Teusch, a fourth-grade student at Greenfield-Central Intermediate School in Indiana, tragically took his own life. His parents, Samuel and Nichole Teusch, have come forward with heartbreaking details of their son’s experience in the hopes of shedding light on the consequences of unchecked bullying in schools.

Sammy’s death has left a community devastated and his parents furious, as they claim that the school failed to act on numerous reports of bullying. According to the Teusch family, Sammy was regularly targeted by classmates for various reasons, including his glasses and teeth. Sammy’s father revealed to 13News that the bullying intensified to physical violence, recounting an incident where another child broke Sammy’s glasses. Despite their repeated attempts to alert the school, the Teusch family believes the bullying continued unchecked, with no effective intervention.

The morning of his death, Sammy’s 13-year-old brother discovered him unresponsive in his bedroom, sparking an investigation. Although police found no direct evidence linking the bullying to Sammy’s suicide, including no note or message from him, the Teusch family remains adamant that the school’s indifference contributed to their son’s tragic decision. In a statement, Sammy’s father expressed his disbelief, saying, “How could God take my kid from here? Naturally, that thought was running through my mind. God didn’t take my kid; hate did.”

In response to their son’s death, the Teusch family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Greenfield-Central Community School Corporation and its Board of Trustees. The lawsuit claims that the school displayed “callous indifference” towards the bullying and failed to take meaningful action despite being informed of the ongoing harassment. It states that the district neglected its responsibility to protect Sammy, directly leading to his death.

One of the most disturbing allegations in the lawsuit involves the nickname “Dahmer,” which Sammy’s bullies allegedly used to mock him. This reference to notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is particularly chilling, as it points to the cruel nature of the taunts Sammy endured. The lawsuit claims that when a teacher was made aware of the bullying and the “Dahmer” nickname, her response was shockingly dismissive, saying that Sammy “somewhat resembled Jeffrey Dahmer.”

Furthermore, the suit alleges that Sammy’s behavior in class, which included acting out, was dismissed by teachers and administrators rather than viewed as a cry for help. While the principal allowed Sammy to eat lunch in their office after the bullying escalated, it remains unclear whether any disciplinary action was taken against the students responsible for the abuse.

The situation worsened when Sammy entered the fourth grade, according to the lawsuit. It describes how Sammy was often chased during breakfast periods, trying to hide from his tormentors in bathroom stalls, refusing to come out. Chief Brian Hartman of the Greenfield Police Department acknowledged that Sammy was enduring significant hardship at school, noting that the bullying and other life events likely played a role in his tragic decision.

The case highlights a critical issue that many families face: the failure of schools to address bullying and the long-term psychological effects it can have on children. The Teusch family’s fight for justice serves as a stark reminder of the importance of taking bullying seriously and ensuring that children are protected both inside and outside the classroom.
