A man from Charlotte, North Carolina, is speaking out following the mysterious death of his mother, Dana Jackson, while she was a vodou retreat in Haiti.
Timothy Jackson shared his experience with WSOC-TV, explaining how he found out about his mother‘s passing. Dana traveled to Haiti on July 1 for a retreat, feeling a calling to practice vodou, but she never returned home.
Timothy expressed his relief when she arrived safely in Haiti and they maintained communication through WhatsApp, where she sent him photos and videos from her trip.
The last message
He said last message he received from her was on July 12, but the text shows the 13th, in which she mentioned attending church the next day and asked for prayers.
“She said, ‘Hey, we’re going to church tomorrow.’ And then she said, ‘We’re going in for this last piece. Pray for us.”
He was expecting to hear from her again on July 21, but that communication never came.
The following day, he received a call from his grandmother informing him of his mother‘s death.
“Be quite honest, I lost it at work. I just lost it at work, he told WSOC-TV. “That’s my best friend. I lost it. Nothing else to say. I just lost it.”
Dana’s cause of death remains a mystery
The circumstances surrounding Dana‘s passing remains a mystery; Timothy was initially told she had fallen ill, and later received various explanations including a panic attack, stroke, heart attack, and seizures.
He has only received his mother’s death certificate, which is written in Haitian Creole. Timothy is seeking closure and wants to uncover the truth about what happened.
“I’ve been told so many stories of what happened and what transpired. Just trying to figure out what’s the truth?” he said. “What’s the truth? So that we can start healing.”
To help bring his mother’s body back to Charlotte, he has set up a GoFundMe page for donations.
