• Garlic grows in two stages: the leaf development phase and the bulb development phase. In both phases, it is crucial to fertilize properly to avoid problems and get a healthy harvest.
Initial growth phase (leaf development):
• During this stage, the seedlings are nourished by the planted cloves, but the nutrients are depleted over time, which can cause the leaves to turn yellow and dry out.
• To prevent this, use fertilizers rich in nitrogen and sulfur. Magnesium is also useful for strengthening the roots.
Fertilizer preparation: dissolve 1 tablespoon of ammonium nitrate and 1 tablespoon of magnesium sulfate in 10 liters of water. Water abundantly under the root.
• This fertilizer will help keep the leaves green and juicy, and strengthen the stem to ensure large heads of garlic.
Bulb development phase:
• At this stage, garlic begins to focus its energy on the bulbs, and leaf growth slows down.
• Apply a fertilizer without nitrogen, but with potassium and phosphorus, which are found in wood ash.
Fertilizer preparation: dissolve 1 cup of ash in 10 liters of water. Water under the root.
• Remember that any fertilizer should be applied on moist soil for better absorption. Another option is to make a furrow near the planting and add the fertilizer into it
