Wilmington man arrested for running an unlicensed massage therapist practice at his home and secretly recording clients

A man in WilmingtonNorth Carolina has been arrested and charged for operating an unlicensed massage therapy business from his home and for secretly recording his clients.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s OfficeRobert Charles Herring was providing free massages at his residence on Kipling Court. He allegedly used a camera to covertly film and take pictures of clients during their massages, as stated in police warrants.

The sheriff’s office reported that Herring did not obtain consent from the victims. His arrest followed multiple complaints from individuals who had received massages from him.

Herring allegedly told clients his free massages were part of a student curriculum

Investigators from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Herring claimed his free massage services were part of his massage therapy student curriculum and that he needed extra hours to complete his certification.

Herring has been charged with 12 felony counts of secret peeping and is currently being held on a secured bond of $125,000.

The Sheriff’s Office believes there may be additional clients who will come forward.
