Charlotte police report that a man killed his girlfriend, whom he had been dating for 2 months, and then claimed a “masked man” did it

Charlotte police have charged 25-year-old Charles Wittington Hodge Jr. with murder for allegedly killing his 23-year-old girlfriend, Jenyah Kishawne Skyye Wright, whom he had been dating for two months. Hodge Jr. initially claimed that a masked man had approached them on the road asking for a lighter and then shot Wright before fleeing, but police found his story unconvincing.

On September 6, just before 2 a.m., officers responded to an apartment complex on Woodway Oak Circle, where they discovered Wright dead.

Shot in the neck

Hodge Jr. had called 911, stating that his girlfriend had been shot in the neck and was “losing blood.” When paramedics arrived, they found Wright outside a vehicle, already dead. Hodge Jr. was seen kneeling over her, applying a shirt to her wound

Police noted that Hodge Jr. was barefoot and had blood-soaked socks. He was taken in for questioning by homicide detectives. During the interview, he admitted to dating Wright and said he had picked her up from a bar after she had been out with friends.

Masked man in the road

Hodge Jr. recounted that while driving home, a masked man approached them, asked for a lighter, and then pulled a gun. He claimed they struggled for the weapon, resulting in two shots being fired inside the vehicle, hitting Wright. He stated that the masked man then fled, prompting him to call 911.

However, Hodge Jr. denied walking into a grassy area of the apartment complex, where investigators found bloody footprints leading away from the scene. Following these footprints, detectives discovered a Glock 40 caliber pistol in the woods, which contained a live round. Further examination of the vehicle Hodge Jr. was driving revealed additional evidence.

As a result, investigators obtained arrest warrants for Hodge Jr., as the evidence collected contradicted his account of events.

The investigation is still ongoing.
