‘Bearded’ North Carolina woman arrested for child abuse inflicted on a child under 1-years-old

A bearded woman from North Carolina, has been arrested after deputies in Halifax County reported that a baby under the age of one had a broken femur and drugs in their system.

The incident was initially reported to the Roanoke Rapids police but was later referred to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office on June 18 due to jurisdictional issues. Authorities discovered that the baby had been hospitalized with broken bones and narcotics present in their system. The Department of Social Services alerted the police after getting involved.

During the investigation, it was revealed that a woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was supposed to have custody of the child but never actually did. Instead, another woman, who was caring for the child resided in Halifax County.

Investigators identified 33-year-old Candice Demetris Davis from Roanoke Rapids as the person who had the baby. Although Davis had previously held custody of the child, she was not authorized to have the child at the time of the incident, according to investigators.

Davis was arrested on Thursday, as reported by Fighting Crime News and Who’s Wanted. She faces two counts of felony child abuse and felony child abduction. Davis was taken to the Halifax County Detention Center, where her bond was set at $40,000.

Additionally, she was served with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear, which carried a $500 cash bond.
