Man Who Strapped His House Down in Preparation for Hurricane Milton Isn’t Taking Them off Yet for Important Reason

The man who went viral after strapping his house down in an attempt to protect it from Hurricane Milton has claimed he hasn’t removed them yet for an important reason.

Tampa resident Mohammed Nijem went viral after deciding the best way to prevent his home from being destroyed by the hurricane was to strap it down with six yellow straps which were attached to the ground and went over the roof of his house.

Local news outlet Spectrum Bay News 9 covered the story and shared a photo of the bizzare sight along with the caption: ‘Viewer Mohammed Nijem is getting prepped for Hurricane Milton,’.

Social media users were baffled and many were curious to know if his unique method worked.

One person wrote ‘This is the most Florida thing I’ve ever seen,’ while another shared ‘Everyone is laughing now, but this man will be a legend when all the other houses are floating down the road and he’s sitting in his new living room swimming pool watching TV powered by a Starlink terminal,’.

Another said ‘Bro secured his house like a piano when moving. Absolute legend.’

Now, the threat of Hurricane Milton has passed but the family have decided to keep the house strapped down for now.

An online update by his daughter Raisa was shared online. She shared that the strap method worked and that the structure survived the storm.

@simplyuniquesmiles93 We made it through our second Hurricane and we are blessed to have no crazy damages to rhe home. My prayers still continue to those heavily affected during this time. Me and my dad are about to drive to see if anyone needs help🙏🫶🏼🏠#HurricaneMilton#CentralFL#Orlando#FLhomegoesviral#homestrappeddown#homedepot#lowes#USCC#cargocontrolstraps#acehardware#CNN#wash2news#spectrumnews#telemundo#univision#dailymail#abcnews#ukradiostation ♬ Inspirational – neozilla

Many commented that the neighbouring houses that had not been strapped down also appeared to have been unaffected by the storm.

In her video, she shared that they were going to leave the safety straps on as a precautionary measure until the end of hurricane season – so around November time.

Seems like a safe bet!
